Hi Everyone! Sami from The Unexpected Type here today bringing you a super easy project that will transform your cupcakes from sad store bought bites to party-ready desserts! I always struggle with the cheesy toppers on grocery store cakes and love seeing all of the different designs on Etsy that jazz up cakes. I struggled even more with the price tags! (YIKES) You know what that means—time for a DIY!
The best thing about this DIY is that it’s SUPER simple. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Topper Template - CupcakeToppersTemplate
- Scissors or an Xacto Knife
- Calligraphy or Brush Pen
- Tape / Washi Tape
- 3-4” wooden dowels
- Confetti & Sprinkles (you know there must be confetti!)
Start by printing and then cutting out your scroll shapes from the topper template. I used an Xacto knife on a cutting mat to get a more precise cut, but scissors will definitely do the trick!
After you’ve cut out the toppers, use your calligraphy pen to write sayings like, “Hooray,” or “Party.” Guest names are also great written on these!
Next, attach your toppers to your dowels. You can use just one dowel in the center, or two on either side like I did! Glue or tape works great to attach these—I used washi tape!
That’s it! It only takes three simple steps to get these fun toppers. The finale? Popping them into your cakes! Everyone will be asking where you bought these cute toppers, but you totally get to brag when you admit you made them yourself! Until next time! Xo. Sami
