Strawberry Poptarts

Hi Lovelies! Sami from The Unexpected Type here with THE EASIEST recipe for a super fun sweet treat. Strawberries are a favorite for me during the summer! I usually end up making a batch or two of yummy jam to add a fresh spin on PB&J, BUT that’s not all jam is good for. I’ve been itching to make my own pop tarts for a while and this was the perfect excuse since I had so much jam lying around! These sweet, heart-shaped tarts make a fun addition to any boring breakfast or summer soiree. You only need a few things and… they’re DELICIOUS! HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

For the pop tarts

  • 1 package (2 rounds) of pie dough
  • 1 egg + 1 tsp water
  • Strawberry Jam (you could use any type of jam, or even Nutella)

For the Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Sprinkles (optional—but really who’s kidding..)

TO MAKE YOUR POP TARTS

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Then, nroll your dough rounds and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out your pop tart sides. You’ll need 2 for each, so remember to cut an even number. You should pop out 4-6 hearts per round depending on your cutter size.

Place half of your hearts on a parchment lined baking sheet and scoop a heaping tablespoon of your filling into the center. Top with the matching heart and use a fork to press the edges together (they look so cute this way!) Poke a hole or two on top to prevent them from bursting open. Whisk together the egg and water to create your egg wash, then paint a thin layer of onto each pop tart.

Bake 10-12 minutes until nice and golden brown. Let them cool, then… WE FROST!

TO MAKE YOUR FROSTING

Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Your mixture shouldn’t be watery, but viscous. If it’s too water, add some sugar-- if it’s too thick, add some milk.

Drizzle over your beautifully baked pop tarts and let gravity do the rest! You definitely should add sprinkles-- right now, right now! They add 5 points of cuteness, which makes them perfectly instagrammable.
